Wednesday afternoon rush hour Honk 'n Wave at Route 1 and East-West Highway
Wednesday afternoon rush hour Honk 'n Wave at Route 1 and East-West Highway
When:March 4, 20263:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Location:Intersection, U.S. 1 & Maryland 410, University Park, MD, 20737
Indivisible Route 1 Corridor invites you to join our weekly Wednesday afternoon honk 'n wave (aka sign wave) at the intersection of Route 1 and East-West Highway (MD-410) in PG County. Our BIG, **bold**, colorful, and thought-provoking signs on a broad range of current issues--as well as some of our attendees in blowups or costumes--elicit an *insane* amount of honks, smiles, and thumbs up from passing motorists. We turn that normally placid intersection into a wild carnival of resistance to the Regime. Give it a try, we guarantee you will walk away feeling politically empowered!
Being visible out on the sidewalks gives other people hope and the sense that they are not alone. While someone beeping their horn or giving a thumbs up may seem like an insignificant gesture, for some just taking that t-i-n-y step may be the first time they realize “Hmm, I actually agree with what they’re saying...” And who knows, their honk may influence the nonresponsive driver next to them.
We always bring out a bunch of cool signs but bring your own if you prefer. Sunglasses, a hat, and drinking water recommended. Local street parking is available nearby, but you can also park at the Church of the Brethren parking lot 2 blocks north on Route 1 at Tuckerman. We do cancel if rainy/icy weather.

How to join:
Please join our virtual welcome session with this link
Are you a young person between 13 and 25 years old who is interested in taking action around preventing gun violence? Join us for our Team ENOUGH welcome session to learn more about the different ways you can engage.
Team ENOUGH is a youth-led program whose mission is to educate young voices about gun violence and mobilize them to take meaningful action against it. Supported by Brady United, we harness the expertise and experience of today’s youth to advance our intersectional work across the country.
Led by an Executive Council, comprised of students just like us, we believe that diversity is a strength, and that only when everyone has a seat at the table can we build an effective movement to prevent all gun violence in all communities.
For us, preventing gun violence not only requires regulating access to firearms but also addressing how systemic racism and environmental factors cause this form of bloodshed to run especially rampant in communities of color. You cannot talk about gun violence without talking about police brutality, white supremacy, the broken criminal justice system, poverty, homophobia, access to affordable housing, or the often barriers separating disadvantaged populations from physical and mental healthcare.
So if you share this belief, join us for our Team ENOUGH welcome session and become part of the movement to end gun violence in our lifetime.
How to prepare:
We are excited to see you soon!
P.S. This is a call for young people from 13-25 years old who are interested in getting engaged with the Team ENOUGH program. If you are over the age of 25 please sign up for the Brady Welcome Session at https://www.mobilize.us/brady/event/274016/

Visibility Brigade Democracy Wave on Pedestrian Bridge over Route 50 in Bowie, MD
This a local Indivisible event!
Come out and show support for our large letter signs promoting Democracy, facing both east- and west-bound lanes. Two signs with large letters for easy reading by passing cars will be in place. You are invited to show your support for these messages and to encourage the public to do the same. Your presence is a powerful message! This event will also connect you with your Democracy-supporting neighbors. You are not alone and YES, we can DO something!
What you can bring: 1) American flags, and as needed 2) Drinking water, 3) Wind gear, 3) Ear plugs (it can be loud up there), 4) Hand warmers, 5) Chair for yourself. The cars passing underneath make it windy.
We will cancel for any precipitation and wind above 15 mph during these winter months. We would like to swap days if we have to cancel but understand if that doesn’t work with your schedule (e.g., Sat or Mon instead of Fri). Watch for emails if we cancel re: grabbing an unscheduled day that Mother Nature may provide for us.
We are discouraging small hand-held signs because they can't be read from a distance or at 55 mph, and so can be an unsafe distraction to drivers. We can't leave anything behind on the bridge when we leave.
*A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.*
How to prepare:
How to get there:
From Northview Drive: Park in the Park and Ride lot. The car entrance is the one closest to the bike path and where the road bends sharply towards/away from the H section homes. The bridge is down the bike trail to the left (following chain link fence of the park & ride lot) about 500 yrds.
From the old Movie Theater lot: Park in the unused lot on the right side of the theater building and behind the hotel But Not In the hotel parking lot. Walk towards the chain link fence adjacent to the hotel's parking lot to access the bike path. Continue to the left approximately 200 yds.
From Benjamin Tasker Middle School: Park in the school lot or in the neighborhood. Access the bike path at the Kenhill Dr./Rt 197 light. Walk to the left up a moderately steep hill about 600 yds.
Please join us every Friday from 3-5:00 (weather permitting*) at The Gorman Road overpass in Laurel to protest this Trump administration and to protect our democracy.
If you too feel a need to speak out and use your freedom to protest, then this is your opportunity to join like-minded people who believe in our constitution and in humanity.
This is a fun way to do something useful - lots of honking and affirmation from the 20K+ cars below. Wear your warm clothes or your character costumes. Bring your flags, small signs (for local traffic) and large signs for the 95 traffic below. Or just bring yourself and friends too of course.
As it is hard to find as it is not a direct exit off of 95, put 8907 Gorman Rd in your GPS.
This a local Indivisible event with help from the local Columbia Democratic Club and others!
*Rain or snow are usually the weather constraints that may keep us from being there.

Join us on the overpass as we hoist a huge message on the Ridgley Avenue Route 50 overpass to reach about 40K commuters headed eastbound on Route 50 in Annapolis, and wave signs for drivers traversing Ridgley Avenue on Fridays from 4-5:30.

Third Act and Indivisible are grassroots groups in all 50 states that believe in the possibility of change and are doing the work to make it happen. We believe that we, the people, through our members, and along with many other organizations, and with millions of residents, can turn around the current march towards autocracy. BUT ONLY WITH YOUR HELP.
Here in Northern Virginia, we are not staying silent in the face of the attack on every institution and every racial, ethnic, and religious group in this country except those of the elites (you know who we mean). When everything is under attack, what do we do? Stand up and fight back. Stand up and fight back against hatred, bigotry, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny, and antisemitism. Stand up and fight back against the attacks on NIH, CDC, EPA, NPS, DOE, DOJ, CFPB, SSA, USAID, the Fed, universities, and law firms. Stand up and fight back against the federal invasion of our cities and the kidnapping of hard-working, tax paying, loyal immigrants looking for a better way of life. Out with ICE! And we do not forget about our felllow citizens of the world - the continuing and unending genocide in Gaza supported by US arms, the unprovoked atrocities in Ukraine not defended by US arms, and the mind-numbing degree of starvation and disease in Africa caused by the cruel policy to take away the US AID humanitarian mission.
Our Putin-loving president is in the process of taking away all of our constitutional rights and trying to take away our humanity. STAND UP AGAINST IT ALL. Come out with signs, banners, horns, whistles, pots and pans - whatever you can think of to get the attention of your fellow citizens who are passing by and may not be as focused as they should be on the desperate state of our democracy.
Stand up for the Constitution for the Rule of Law. Stand up for Humanity.
This is not the time to sit on the sidelines. This is a time for action!

Location:Forest Drive, on the sidewalks near the Safeway, 1796 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD, 21403

Those sidewalks are well cleared and look safe. We aim to return to the Annapolis Mall area when the footing is safe.

Those sidewalks are well cleared and look safe.
(About parking- we don't have any arrangements/permissions. We suggest that if you choose to park by a business, it would be great if you also buy something there!).
We aim to return to the Annapolis Mall area when the footing is safe.

You’ll be able to meet other activists from newbies to leaders, and if you’re looking for an organization so you can be part of a team, join us! **We have Elon on the ropes. We can't let up now.** He's still the richest man in the world. He still wields enormous power. He is responsible for mass suffering and death. And he will cause more if we give him the chance to recover his reputation.
After the 2020 election and January 6, a lot of people were convinced Donald Trump was toast. A lot of folks said "Look forward, not backward," and he was never held accountable. Let's not make that mistake with Elon.
**The stakes couldn’t be higher. No one is coming to save us. Not politicians, not the media, not the courts.**
Tesla Takedown is a peaceful protest movement. We oppose violence, vandalism and destruction of property. This protest is a lawful exercise of our First Amendment right to peaceful assembly.
Come with a friend and bring a sign! Bring boomboxes, musical instruments, and noisemakers! Children and pets are welcome.

Wednesday afternoon rush hour Honk 'n Wave at Route 1 and East-West Highway
Wednesday afternoon rush hour Honk 'n Wave at Route 1 and East-West Highway
When:March 11, 20263:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Bowie Rt 50 Pedestrian Overpass Wave for Democracy Fri 2-4pm
When:March 13, 20262:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Location:15202 Major Lansdale Blvd, Bowie, MD, 20716
**A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.*
Join us on the overpass as we hoist a huge message on the Ridgley Avenue Route 50 overpass to reach about 40K commuters headed eastbound on Route 50 in Annapolis, and wave signs for drivers traversing Ridgley Avenue on Fridays from 4-5:30.
How to prepare:
Thank you for signing up for the Friday Ridgley Avenue Overpass Extravaganza! Be sure to dress for the weather, bring water and a sign to show drivers traversing Ridgley Avenue (we have a team that constructs the huge sign we display over Route 50). The day’s team captain will notify you NLT 3:30 if we need to cancel for the day due to weather.
Have a great time on the overpass! You will feel so joyful and motivated when you see and hear the positive reactions from the commuters below on the Route 50 "parking lot”.

Those sidewalks are well cleared and look safe. We aim to return to the Annapolis Mall area when the footing is safe.
How to prepare:
We had to cancel 1/31 due to the mountains of snow/ice along the Annapolis mall sidewalks, and they are still there, so instead of cancelling our weekly sign-waving protest, we're RELOCATING for 2/7 - we'll be on the sidewalks on Forest Drive by the Safeway, same time: 11 am -1pm. Those sidewalks are well cleared and look safe.
(About parking- we don't have any arrangements/permissions. We suggest that if you choose to park by a business, it would be great if you also buy something there!).
We aim to return to the Annapolis Mall area when the footing is safe.
Dress for the weather, bring a sign (or use one of ours), a flag, water, and a big smile! You’ll be able to meet other activists from newbies to leaders, and if you’re looking for an organization so you can be part of a team, join us! We’ll help you find ways to volunteer doing strategic activities that really make a difference!

When:March 18, 20263:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Bowie Rt 50 Pedestrian Overpass Wave for Democracy Fri 2-4pm
When:March 20, 20262:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Location:15202 Major Lansdale Blvd, Bowie, MD, 20716

We rally on the public sidewalk on the NE corner of Georgia Ave and Forest Glen Rd in support of democracy. Our gathering is kid and dog-friendly: bring a neighbor! Bring your signs in support of: government workers, immigrants, the rule of law, the planet, our children, and for jobs.
From: https://www.instagram.com/shutdowndc_/ Did you know that @boycotttargetdmv pickets outside the 14th St. Target every Saturday? Follow them and pull up (but stay safe in the heat!).
Join us every week as we crank up the music, bring the community together, and dance against this hostile takeover of our government. People from all walks of life come to move, laugh, and show the world: we're united, we're joyful, and we're way too fabulous for fascism.
Authoritarians win when we’re isolated and afraid — so we fight back with joy, movement, and unity.
🎭 Wear something bold, wild, or just plain outrageous 📢 Bring your own sign — or grab one of ours! 💃 Come ready to dance, connect, and make some noise

NEW LOCATION 2/7: Weekly Protest will be on FOREST DRIVE, NOT Annapolis Mall (11-1 pm)
When:March 21, 202611:00 am - 1:00 pm
Location:Forest Drive, on the sidewalks near the Safeway, 1796 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD, 21403
We still have mountains of snow/ice along the Annapolis mall sidewalks, so instead of cancelling our weekly sign-waving protest, we're RELOCATING for 2/7 - we'll be on the sidewalks on Forest Drive by the Safeway, same time: 11 am -1pm.

When:March 25, 20263:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Bowie Rt 50 Pedestrian Overpass Wave for Democracy Fri 2-4pm

We of Action (WofA) Bridge Brigades: all of the following 19 bulleted WofA Arlington bridge actions on No Kings day (3/28) are from 8 to 10:00 am (most ask you sign up to get address/details). “As we have in the two prior No Kings, WofA will be doing multiple bridge visibility actions across Arlington to share the messages: No Kings, ICE Out, and Get Out to Vote in VA. Please sign up for just one. If you bring signs, keep them G-rated, please.”
No Kings Kalorama: Sign Wave from 10 am to Noon at Connecticut Avenue and Kalorama Road, NW, DC. “Bring your signs, noise makers, music and creative ideas and gather in joyful, non-violent protest. Children are very welcome.” See https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/event/905450/
A Celebration of Resistance Mega Sign Wave: from 10 to 11:30 am along major streets bordering Hyattsville, University Park, and Riverdale. “We aim to create a solid 1.3-mile sign wave filling sidewalks along Route 1 from Albion Road to the intersection with East-West Highway (MD-410), then east along 410 to the intersection with Queens Chapel Road, and then north on Queens Chapel to Belcrest Road. Costumes are welcome but of course not required. Our large, readable, and graphically interesting signs will elicit an insane level of honking from passing drivers on these busy streets, as we nurture a culture of resistance. Come join us in the morning and then go to a later event elsewhere! Hyattsville Crossing Green Line Metro station is only about 10-minute walk to the intersection of Adelphi and MD-410. Ample parking is available in nearby neighborhoods. Sponsored by Indivisible Route 1 Corridor.” For more information, see https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/904895/

It’s protest powered by joy — the most fun you’ll have defending our Freedoms, Families, and Future!

NEW LOCATION 2/7: Weekly Protest will be on FOREST DRIVE, NOT Annapolis Mall (11-1 pm)
When:March 28, 202611:00 am - 1:00 pm
Location:Forest Drive, on the sidewalks near the Safeway, 1796 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD, 21403
We still have mountains of snow/ice along the Annapolis mall sidewalks, so instead of cancelling our weekly sign-waving protest, we're RELOCATING for 2/7 - we'll be on the sidewalks on Forest Drive by the Safeway, same time: 11 am -1pm.

Miller is currently living right here in our community at Fort McNair in Southwest DC. He's using public money to pay for his personal housing while while he decimates funding healthcare, schools, and SNAP, expands an empire of detention and deportation, and enriches himself and his friends.
Stephen Miller is not welcome in our community. On March 28, we'll make it clear we want him out. Rally with us starting at 1:30 PM at the foot of the Frederick Douglass Bridge where we'll hear from some incredible speakers and performers. From there we'll march past Fort McNair where Miller is living, before concluding near Waterfront Metro with key info about how to protect DC in this critical election year and of course, some DC joy.

Bring a big sign if you'd like to tie in with the themes of the day, such as "Workers Over Billionaires", "Free DC", "Resist", "anti-ICE", "Epstein Files", "Free Speech" as suggestions.
